Welcome to Sinha Group
Do you want to know about how the read-head inside your computer works? To look at new ways to store hydrogen for the new hydrogen economy? The behavior of polymers? These topics and more are investigated by the Sinha Group, primarily using x-ray and neutron scattering. The focus of our research is the study of the structure and dynamics of condensed matter.

Recent News

September 13, 2007

Prof. Sunil K. Sinha is giving a plenary talk at the UK Synchrotron Radiation User Meeting 2007, which is taking place at the Diamond Light Source, Didcot, Oxfordshire. His talk is entitled Combined Neutron and Synchrotron Studies of the Exchange Bias Problem.

September 5-8, 2007

The group hosted the San Diego II Workshop on Enhanced Capability for Neutron Scattering, in collaboration with the Manuel Lujan Jr Neutron Scattering Center at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

August 31, 2007

Dr. Gutt's paper Partially Wetting Thin Liquid Films: Structure and Dynamics Studied with Coherent X Rays was published as Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 096104 (2007). No dynamics have been observed, showing the absence of capillary waves on liquid films partially wetting a substrate. A solid-like behavior of the thin liquid films at large length scales was found. The exact surface structure and degree of replication with the substrate depend on the deposition rate of the molecules.

June 28, 2007

Dr. Zhang Jiang recently attended the Coherence 2007 conference at Asilomar, where he gave a talk on his work on surface dynamics in polystyrene films near the glass transition temperature.

June 6, 2007

Zhang Jiang successfully defended his thesis on X-ray Scattering Studies of Structure and Dynamics of Surfaces and Interfaces of Polymeric Liquids ! Congratulations! He will be starting a postdoc at Argonne National Laboratory at the beginning of August. His thesis and presentation (PDF files) can be obtained by request from Zhang Jiang.
